Most lists of micro SaaS ideas are written from the founder's chair: things that would be neat to build, with no evidence that anyone is looking for them. This list starts from the other end. Every idea below is anchored to a phrase that real people type into Google every month, and each one carries three numbers next to it: how many people search it, how hard the first page is to reach, and what an advertiser pays for that click.
The click price is the one to watch. A keyword where advertisers pay $15 a click has a business on the other end already spending money to reach that buyer. A keyword with a six-cent click has plenty of searches and nobody willing to pay for the answer. Both appear below, and the cards say which is which.
Most of these ideas replace a template. That is not a coincidence. When someone searches "purchase order template" they want a purchase order, and what they get is a spreadsheet from a site that ranks for ten thousand templates. Jotform and Smartsheet built large businesses on those pages. A micro SaaS wins the same searches by delivering the finished document instead of the blank one.
How to read the numbers
Volumes, keyword difficulty (KD, 0 to 100) and cost per click are Ahrefs estimates for the United States in September 2026. The keywords were pulled from the organic rankings of sites that capture tool intent, filtered to KD 20 or under and at least 500 searches a month, which skews the set toward "template" and "generator" phrases. A national number describes the size of the door; your share depends on how well you rank and how narrow you go.

Searches and KD are for the anchor keyword on each card; several ideas have two or three more phrases behind them. CPC is what an advertiser pays per click for that phrase.
Quotes and paperwork for the trades
The buyer here has a job to price this week and does the paperwork at the kitchen table after ten hours on site. The search results for these phrases are PDF templates from Smartsheet, which is the opening.
Contractor Quote Builder
A web app where a one-to-five-person contractor builds a quote from a saved item catalog, sends it as a link, and collects the client's signature and deposit on the same page. Most of them still do this in a Word template that took twenty minutes to fix last time.
Who pays
General contractors, remodelers and handymen who bid several jobs a week and lose some of them to slower paperwork.
Search demand
construction quote template gets 800 US searches a month at KD 2, and advertisers pay $4.62 a click for it. construction estimate template adds 1,100 at KD 4 and construction proposal template another 1,100 at KD 6.
What to charge
$19 to $29 a month, or a per-quote fee for the ones who bid rarely.
What kills it
Growing into a full job-management suite. Jobber and Joist already own that. The product stays a quote tool that is faster than Word.
Roofing Estimate Generator
The same quote tool, narrowed to one trade. Roofers price by square, pitch and tear-off, and a generic estimator makes them fill in the wrong fields. A roofing-only version ships with the line items pre-loaded.
Who pays
Roofing crews quoting from a truck. The person who signs up is often the owner's spouse doing the office work in the evening.
Search demand
roofing estimate template gets 900 searches a month at KD 0 with a $1.82 CPC, and roofing contract template another 500 at KD 6.
What to charge
$29 a month. Roofing jobs run in the thousands, so the price of the tool is invisible.
What kills it
Building it before talking to a roofer. The fields they price by are specific, and a founder who guesses them ships a template nobody trusts.
Money for businesses too small for an accountant
Someone asked the owner for a document with a name they recognize and a format they do not have. The tool produces the document and stops there.
Profit and Loss From a Bank Export
Upload a bank CSV or type in ten numbers and get a profit-and-loss statement, balance sheet and income statement formatted for a lender or an accountant. It is the step before QuickBooks, for the owner who has been asked for a P and L and does not have one.
Who pays
Sole proprietors and micro businesses applying for a loan, a lease or a grant, and freelancers doing their taxes.
Search demand
profit and loss statement template gets 11,000 searches a month at KD 2 and $2.37 a click. income statement template adds 2,900 at KD 0 and balance sheet template 6,900 at KD 6.
What to charge
$9 per statement or $12 a month. The buyer needs it once, so price for the once.
What kills it
Trying to categorise transactions perfectly. The bank export is messy, and the tool should let the owner fix ten rows by hand rather than promise magic.
Budget Builder for a Small Company
A guided budget for a business with two to twenty people: revenue lines, fixed costs, headcount, and a monthly view that shows the runway. Spreadsheets do this, and the search volume says people are still looking for a better one.
Who pays
Owners of small agencies and shops, and founders building a first annual budget for a board or a bank.
Search demand
company budget template gets 2,200 searches a month at KD 12 with a $5.36 CPC. business budget template adds 1,800 at KD 20 and $4.97, and project budget template 900 at KD 0.
What to charge
$15 a month, or a one-time $49 for the budget plus twelve months of tracking against it.
What kills it
Feature creep toward forecasting and scenario modelling. The buyer wants a budget they can defend in one meeting.
Payroll for a Three-Person Team
Enter hours and rates, get gross-to-net for each person and a summary the owner can hand to the accountant. Full payroll providers file taxes and charge per employee. This one stops before the filing and charges a flat fee.
Who pays
Owners paying two to five people who are not ready for Gusto and are doing it in a spreadsheet today.
Search demand
payroll template gets 700 searches a month at KD 1, and advertisers pay $12.79 a click for it, the second-highest CPC on this list.
What to charge
$19 a month flat, regardless of headcount.
What kills it
Tax rules. The moment the tool promises withholding accuracy across states it becomes a compliance product. Keep it at calculation and export, and say so on the page.
Pay Stub Generator for Freelancers and Tiny Employers
Enter pay, deductions and dates, download a clean pay stub. People need one for an apartment application, a car loan or a visa, and small employers need to hand them out without a payroll provider.
Who pays
Self-employed people proving income, and employers with one or two staff.
Search demand
pay stub template gets 3,400 searches a month at KD 11 and $2.45 a click. free check stub maker adds 1,400 at KD 11 and $3.34, and check stub template 1,500 at KD 17.
What to charge
$8 to $12 per document. The existing sites charge per stub and it works.
What kills it
Document fraud. The same tool that helps a freelancer helps someone fake an income. Verify the business, watermark the free version, and write the terms so a bank would accept the output.
Documents that move goods
Every shipment produces paper, and the small shipper produces it by hand. The volumes here are large and the click prices are modest, so the model is cheap, high-volume subscriptions.
Bill of Lading Generator
Small carriers and shippers fill out a bill of lading for every load, and most do it on a PDF someone found in 2014. A generator that saves shippers, consignees and commodity lines, and numbers the documents, fixes an hour a week.
Who pays
Owner-operators, small freight brokers and warehouses shipping a few pallets a day.
Search demand
bol template gets 2,500 searches a month at KD 4 and bill of lading template 1,300 at KD 9. Almost nobody is attacking either as a product.
What to charge
$12 a month per company, unlimited documents.
What kills it
A founder who has never seen a loading dock. The market is open; the risk is getting the fields wrong. Spend a day with a dispatcher before writing the first one.
Purchase Order Tool for Small Buyers
A numbered purchase order with supplier details, line items, approval and a PDF, kept in a searchable list. Companies with a purchasing department have this. Companies where one person orders for a restaurant or a clinic do not.
Who pays
Office managers and owners who order from several suppliers and keep getting asked for a PO number.
Search demand
purchase order template gets 6,800 searches a month at KD 1 with a $2.36 CPC, and po template another 700 at KD 4.
What to charge
$10 a month. Invoice Simple proved that a document tool at this price sells to this buyer.
What kills it
Competing with the invoice apps that already added POs as a feature. The wedge is being the PO tool, with supplier history and reorder in one click.
Packing Slips and Shipping Labels for Home-Based Sellers
For the seller doing ten to a hundred orders a week from a spare room: paste an order, print a packing slip and a label, log the tracking number. The big shipping platforms want a Shopify store connected before they do anything.
Who pays
Etsy sellers, small ecommerce brands, and people who sell through Instagram and take orders by direct message.
Search demand
shipping label maker gets 3,600 searches a month at KD 0 and packing slip template 2,500 at KD 1. Both carry a CPC under $1.50, so pricing has to stay low.
What to charge
$8 a month, or a free tier with a paid label history.
What kills it
Carrier integrations. Buying postage inside the app means carrier APIs and thin margins on labels. Start with slip and label layout only, and let the seller buy postage where they already do.
Receipt Generator With a Ledger
A receipt that is numbered, dated, stored and searchable, for the businesses that still write them by hand: tutors, cleaners, market stalls, contractors. The tool keeps the copy the seller usually loses.
Who pays
Cash and bank-transfer businesses that get asked for a receipt and want one that looks legitimate.
Search demand
receipt template gets 15,000 searches a month at KD 0, the largest volume on this list, with a $1.15 CPC. cash receipt template adds 2,000 at KD 6.
What to charge
$5 a month or a $19 lifetime. High volume and low willingness to pay, so it works best as the front door to a bigger paperwork product.
What kills it
Fraud. A receipt generator gets used to fake expenses, and payment processors notice. Build for named businesses with a real ledger, not for anonymous one-off receipts.
Hours, shifts and time off
Teams of five to forty people run these on a shared spreadsheet that breaks every January. The HR suites price them as part of a bundle the manager does not want.
Time-Off Tracker for Small Teams
Employees request days off, managers approve, balances update, and a calendar shows who is out. Teams of five to thirty run this in a spreadsheet that breaks at the start of every year, and the HR suites sell it inside a package they do not need.
Who pays
Managers and office admins at companies too small for an HR system.
Search demand
time off tracker gets 900 searches a month at KD 2, and advertisers pay $15.37 a click for it, the highest CPC in this whole set. That number means someone is already making money on this buyer.
What to charge
$2 per employee per month, with a $19 minimum.
What kills it
Expanding into a full HR tool. The tracker sells because it does one thing the spreadsheet does badly. The other risk is Slack-native competitors, so the Slack integration is table stakes.
Shift Roster for Restaurants and Retail
A weekly roster built from availability and roles, sent to staff by text, with swaps handled in the app. The buyer is the manager who redoes the schedule three times a week because someone called in.
Who pays
Managers of cafés, restaurants, gyms and small shops with ten to forty hourly staff.
Search demand
employee schedule template gets 2,400 searches a month at KD 12 and $3.64 a click. roster template adds 700 at KD 1 and staff schedule template 600 at KD 6.
What to charge
$29 a month per location.
What kills it
When I Work, Homebase and Deputy have free tiers. The room is vertical: one industry, one workflow, cheaper and faster than a suite. Pick the vertical before the name.
Timesheets That End in an Invoice
Log hours by client, approve them, and turn the week into an invoice or a payroll export. Timesheet apps exist, and the searches show a steady stream of people still looking for the spreadsheet version, which means the apps have not met them.
Who pays
Freelancers billing hourly, and small agencies with contractors to pay.
Search demand
time sheet template gets 3,800 searches a month at KD 7 with a $1.72 CPC. weekly timesheet template adds 800 at KD 11 and monthly timesheet template 600 at KD 12.
What to charge
$7 a month for one person, $25 for a team.
What kills it
Being a time tracker with a timer. Toggl and Clockify own that. The gap is the paper-like timesheet that ends in a document someone gets paid from.
Production Schedule for a Small Workshop
A bakery, a print shop or a small furniture maker plans production by hand: orders in, capacity per day, due dates out. A board that shows what gets made when, and flags the day that is over capacity.
Who pays
Owners of small manufacturers and food producers with a few staff and a wall calendar.
Search demand
production schedule template gets 700 searches a month at KD 2 and $3.46 a click.
What to charge
$39 a month. The buyer has a business with real revenue and no software budget line yet.
What kills it
Generalising to all of manufacturing. An MRP system is a different product. Stay at the level of a whiteboard that remembers.
The landlord with one to five units
The property-management platforms bundle screening, listings and payments. The landlord who owns a duplex uses none of that and still needs the paperwork.
Rent Ledger and Receipts for DIY Landlords
A landlord with one to five units logs rent as it comes in, sends the tenant a receipt automatically, and has a ledger to show a court or an accountant. Everything else the big platforms bundle stays out.
Who pays
People who own a rental or two and manage it themselves.
Search demand
rent receipt template gets 4,000 searches a month at KD 4 and rent ledger template 1,900 at KD 0. With rental ledger template that is 6,500 monthly searches under KD 5.
What to charge
$6 a month per landlord, unlimited units.
What kills it
Adding rent collection. The moment money moves through the app you are a payments company with a compliance team. Log the payment; do not process it.
Lease Agreement Builder With E-Signature
Answer twelve questions, get a lease for your state, send it for signature, and store the signed copy next to the tenant's application. TurboTenant and Avail do this inside a bigger product. A standalone that handles the document well is a smaller, cheaper thing.
Who pays
The same DIY landlords, at the moment a unit turns over.
Search demand
simple lease agreement template gets 2,300 searches a month at KD 3, rental application template 1,200 at KD 5, room rental agreement template 800 at KD 3 and sublease agreement template 1,000 at KD 6.
What to charge
$29 per lease, or $49 a year.
What kills it
Legal accuracy across fifty states. Launch in three states with a lawyer-reviewed template for each, and say on the page which states are covered.
Project artifacts, not project management
Nobody wants another project tool. People want the one chart or matrix a document needs, and they pay a seat in Monday or Asana to get the export button.
Gantt and Roadmap Generator
Paste a task list with dates, get a Gantt chart or a roadmap as an image, a PDF or a shareable link. People need the artifact for a proposal or a board deck and do not want to set up a project management tool to get it.
Who pays
Consultants, agency project managers and founders who need one chart for one document.
Search demand
gantt chart template gets 10,000 searches a month with a $4.43 CPC, program roadmap template 1,400 at KD 16 and $3.76, and critical path method template 900 at KD 0 and $3.71.
What to charge
Free to make, $9 to export without a watermark, $12 a month for unlimited.
What kills it
Trying to become the project tool. Monday and Asana are the project tool. This is the export button they make you pay a seat for.
RACI and Decision Matrix Builder
A matrix of roles against tasks, with the R, A, C and I filled in through a form and exported as a page the team can sign off on. Consultants build one for every engagement, and every one starts from a blank spreadsheet.
Who pays
Consultants, change managers and PMs at mid-sized companies.
Search demand
raci matrix template gets 1,300 searches a month at KD 15 and $1.71 a click. eisenhower matrix template adds 5,400 at KD 6 if the tool covers other matrices.
What to charge
$9 a month, or free with a branded export.
What kills it
Low willingness to pay. This is a one-artifact tool, so it works best as one of several generators under the same roof, alongside the Gantt one above.
Sales Pipeline for a Solo Founder
Five columns, drag the deal across, log the next step, get a reminder. HubSpot's free CRM does this and forty other things, and the person who wants five columns leaves during the onboarding tour.
Who pays
Solo founders, freelancers and small agencies tracking ten to fifty open deals.
Search demand
sales pipeline template gets 600 searches a month at KD 11, and advertisers pay $7.61 a click, which is the price of a CRM lead.
What to charge
$12 a month, one seat.
What kills it
Adding seats and permissions until it is a CRM. The pitch is that it stays small. Notion templates are the real competitor, so the app has to be faster than Notion at the one job.
Retrospective and After-Action Report Tool
Run a retro or write an after-action report from a guided template, collect input from the team asynchronously, and produce a document with owners and dates. Used by teams that have to file one after every incident, event or sprint.
Who pays
Engineering leads, event producers, and operations teams in regulated or safety-minded industries.
Search demand
after action report template gets 800 searches a month at KD 4 and $2.57 a click, retrospective template 800 at KD 2, and corrective action plan template 1,000 at KD 3.
What to charge
$19 a month per team.
What kills it
Miro and Notion cover the retro for software teams. The paying buyer is outside software: events, healthcare, logistics, where the report is required and the format matters.
HR for companies without HR
The manager of a twelve-person company needs a write-up today and searches for a template because there is nobody else to ask.
HR Documents for Companies Without HR
Write-ups, performance reviews and employment agreements generated from a form and stored per employee. The volumes on these phrases come from managers who have never had an HR department and are handling a situation this afternoon.
Who pays
Owners and managers at companies of five to fifty people with no HR staff.
Search demand
employee evaluation template gets 1,900 searches a month at KD 8, employee write up template 600 at KD 0, performance review templates 600 at KD 1 and $2.15, and employment agreement template 800 at KD 4.
What to charge
$25 a month per company.
What kills it
Giving legal advice by accident. A write-up template that is wrong for a state creates a lawsuit. Keep the documents generic, review them with an employment lawyer, and say what the tool is not.
Job Application Form Builder
A hosted job application for businesses that hire hourly staff without an applicant-tracking system: a link on the door, a form on the phone, applications in a list with a status. The search volume is large and the current answer is a PDF.
Who pays
Restaurants, retail, cleaning companies and franchises hiring a few people a month.
Search demand
job application template gets 8,100 searches a month at KD 4 and employment application template 1,200 at KD 2. CPC is under $1, so volume has to carry the model.
What to charge
$15 a month per location, or free with a paid applicant limit.
What kills it
Building an ATS. Indeed and Workable are free for this buyer at the top of the funnel. Win on the form and the phone experience, and on being the thing that prints the sign for the door.
Verticals nobody is building for
Three markets with a specific document, a specific buyer and no product ranking for the phrase.
Superbill Generator for Therapists
Out-of-network therapists, dietitians and physios hand clients a superbill to claim reimbursement, and most build it in Word with the wrong codes. A generator with CPT and ICD lookups, client history and a one-click PDF.
Who pays
Private-practice clinicians who do not take insurance directly.
Search demand
superbill template gets 700 searches a month at KD 0 with a $2.19 CPC, and nobody serious is ranking a product on it.
What to charge
$15 a month. Practice-management suites start at $60 and the solo clinician often has no suite at all.
What kills it
Health data. Storing client names next to diagnosis codes puts you under HIPAA, so the architecture has to be right on day one, or the tool has to avoid storing the client data at all.
Contracts and Roadmaps for Small SEO Agencies
An SEO agency of one to five people signs a client and produces two documents: a contract and a roadmap. A generator that builds both from the audit, with the deliverables and the monthly plan, and turns the roadmap into a client-facing page.
Who pays
Freelance SEOs and small agencies onboarding a new client every few weeks.
Search demand
seo roadmap template gets 700 searches a month at KD 3 and $5.20 a click, and seo contract template 700 at KD 4 and $3.68.
What to charge
$29 a month.
What kills it
A small market that also knows how to rank pages. The buyer will build the free version if yours is thin. It has to beat the Notion template they can make in an afternoon.
Wedding Itinerary and Seating Chart Planner
Two artifacts every wedding produces: the day-of timeline for vendors and the seating chart. Couples and planners build both in Canva and Google Sheets, and redo them a dozen times as the guest list moves.
Who pays
Couples planning their own wedding, and independent planners handling several at once.
Search demand
wedding itinerary template gets 1,100 searches a month at KD 1 and table seating chart template 900 at KD 16. Both CPCs sit under $1, which says consumers rather than businesses.
What to charge
$19 one-time per wedding for couples, $29 a month for planners.
What kills it
One-time buyers who never come back. The subscription only works with planners, so the product has to be built for the planner and sold to the couple through them.
What a micro SaaS is, and what this list assumes
A micro SaaS is a software product run by one person or a very small team, serving one narrow job for one kind of customer, and priced somewhere between $5 and $50 a month. The target is a few thousand dollars of monthly revenue with almost no overhead, not a funding round. The ideas above assume you want to reach that number by ranking for the phrase your buyer already searches, which is why each one is built around a keyword.
Two ideas were left off the list on purpose, and they show what the numbers can tell you. Nurse report sheet templates draw 1,300 searches a month at KD 2, and advertisers pay six cents a click: real demand, no wallet, because the nurse is a person and the hospital is not searching. File converters like "mp4 to mp3" draw over a hundred thousand searches with CPCs in pennies and no way to charge. Demand without a buyer is a traffic magnet, not a business.
What they sell for
Micro SaaS products change hands often, which gives a clear picture of the money involved. Among the 2,196 indie startups listed for sale in the acquisition report, 46% report no revenue at all and the median asking price is $6,000. Products earning under $100 a month list at 5.6× annual revenue, the highest multiple in the market, because at that size the multiple can be anything without the price looking strange. The SaaS valuation calculator applies the real multiples by revenue band.
That is the honest frame for the list. A micro SaaS that reaches $1,000 a month is in the top third of everything on the market, and the ideas above were chosen so that $1,000 a month is a matter of ranking for one phrase and converting a small share of the people who arrive.
How to pick one
Three filters, in order. First, the click price: an advertiser paying more than $2 for the phrase is proof that a business is already spending on this buyer. Second, the frequency of the document: a contractor quotes weekly, a couple plans one wedding, and only the first is a subscription. Third, reach: pick the buyer you can find in a Facebook group or a trade forum this week, because the interviews come before the code.
Then run the survivor through the same check every idea on this site gets. Search the phrase and look at what ranks; if the first page is blank templates, people are settling for a document when they want the finished thing. Find five people who produce that document every week and ask what they use today and what it costs them. Scoutr runs the desk-research half of that in minutes, including the existing alternatives, what people already pay, and which of your assumptions has no evidence behind it yet.
If you want the larger, pattern-level version of this list, 12 SaaS business ideas covers the archetypes that these micro versions fall into, and 10 B2B SaaS ideas goes deeper on selling to companies.
